Mayor of Mexican city married a crocodile
In the Mexican city of San Pedro Huamelula, Mayor Daniel Gutierrez entered into a symbolic marriage with a female caiman, a small crocodile. This was reported by Reuters.
According to the agency, Gutierrez married the reptile, which residents call the "little princess." Before the ceremony, the female caiman, dressed in a white wedding dress, was carried through the streets. The reptile was brought into homes, and residents danced.
It is noted that according to local beliefs, the crocodile is considered a deity that personifies Mother Earth. Accordingly, marriage to the "tribal leader" symbolizes the connection between the world of gods and the world of humans. The ritual is more than 230 years old, and local residents still believe that this union brings prosperity, good harvests, and rich catches.
