Growth in the number of magnetic storms may continue until 2028
The number of magnetic storms may continue to increase until 2028.
This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"In general, the increase in the number of magnetic storms may continue for at least two more years, approximately until 2028, after which a rapid degradation of all types of solar activity should begin with a transition to a solar minimum at the turn of 2029-2030," the message says.
The laboratory's Telegram channel clarified that for the same reasons, the next two years will be especially favorable for observing the northern lights.
The department also reported that a large coronal hole about one million kilometers in size has formed on the Sun. The star became occupied by coronal holes last year - this is what led to a sharp increase in the number of magnetic storms.
