Gasoline prices in the United States rose by 14% in one week following the start of the military operation against Iran, reaching their highest levels since 2024.

This was reported by The New York Times (NYT), citing data from the nonprofit American Automobile Association (AAA).

As of Saturday morning, the average gasoline price in the United States was $3.41 per gallon (3.785 liters). "This increase means that gasoline prices have surged by 14% over the past week," the newspaper writes, emphasizing that fuel costs have reached "their highest levels since 2024."

The publication notes that gasoline prices are likely to continue rising, since the last time WTI crude oil traded at approximately $90.9 per barrel — comparable to the current level — gasoline in the United States cost around $3.8 per gallon. Moreover, even if gasoline prices decline in the foreseeable future, the economic impact of the current spike on American consumers will be long-lasting, NYT emphasizes.

According to trading data, the price of Brent crude oil futures for May 2026 delivery on the London ICE exchange rose by more than 10%, exceeding $94 per barrel for the first time since September 29, 2023. WTI crude oil futures for April 2026 delivery were at $92.37 per barrel (+14.02%).
