A strong earthquake has occurred in Chile, a tsunami threat has been declared

A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck the southern regions of Chile. The country's authorities immediately issued a tsunami warning, reports The Sun.
The natural disaster occurred 218 kilometers south of Puerto Williams, near the strategically important Strait of Magellan. According to seismologists, the epicenter of the underground tremors was at a relatively shallow depth - just 10 kilometers.
Chile's National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response decided to evacuate residents of the coastal zone in the Magallanes region in the south of the country due to the high risk of a tsunami.
At the same time, seismologists recorded another powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 (according to updated data from the US Geological Survey - 7.4) off the coast of neighboring Argentina.
The epicenter of the second earthquake was located 285 kilometers southeast of the Argentine city of Ushuaia with a population of about 58 thousand people, and 511 kilometers southeast of the Chilean city of Punta Arenas, where approximately 117 thousand people live. The focus of this earthquake was also at a depth of 10 kilometers.
