Complete blackout in Bali: the island left without electricity

May 3, 2025 - A large-scale power outage occurred on the Indonesian resort island of Bali. According to the state power grid company, the cause of the failure was damage to the underwater power cable connecting the island of Java with Bali.

The incident occurred around 4:00 PM local time. Due to the damage to the power line, all power plants supplying the island stopped working, which led to a complete power outage in the region.

Indonesian authorities declared the elimination of the accident a priority task and urgently sent specialists to the site of the damage to assess the situation and restore power supply.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Reuters reports that power supply has already been partially restored in some areas of Bali.

It is worth noting that this is not the first such case in the international energy system: earlier, a similar outage occurred between Spain and France, when an accident on the line and a drop in generation led to a large-scale blackout in Spain and Portugal.
