A squirrel left thousands of people without electricity

A major power outage occurred in downtown Toronto due to an unexpected incident - a squirrel, after entering a power station and touching a transformer, left thousands of people and businesses without power. The power outage was recorded yesterday around 2:00 PM local time. Power company Hydro One reported that the incident occurred at the John substation, located near John Street and Wellington Street West.
Power was restored approximately three hours later, around 5:00 PM.
In a statement published on social media, the company reported that a squirrel, after touching one of the transformers at the station, caused a shield fire. Hydro One noted that despite having various barriers to prevent animals from entering the station, additional measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

It's worth noting that this is not the first time rodents have caused a major power outage in Toronto. In May of last year, a squirrel touching a transformer near George Street and King Street East caused a fire and subsequent power outage.
