The doctor named a simple method for self-diagnosis of insomnia
An effective "3-3-3" method helps distinguish insomnia from short-term sleep disturbances. Dr. Sunny Nayee, an anesthesiologist from Charing Cross Hospital, UK, told PuffPost about this
Nayee explained that insomnia can be identified if sleep disturbances occur at least three nights a week, continue for at least three months, and affect at least three aspects of daytime life - for example, causing fatigue, foggy mind, or mood swings. In such cases, the doctor emphasized, the problem goes beyond an improper lifestyle and requires attention.
He noted that insomnia is not limited to difficulties falling asleep: its manifestations include worsening mood, decreased concentration, and reduced performance due to non-compliance with sleep rules. Among the common causes, Nayee highlighted stress, alcohol consumption, and unfavorable bedroom conditions.
To reduce the risk, he recommended maintaining regular physical activity, following a daily routine, ensuring darkness, quiet, and coolness in the bedroom, as well as choosing comfortable bedding.
