Scientists warn of magnetic storm over the weekend
On the weekend of February 7 and 8, the geomagnetic conditions will generally be calm, but a short-term magnetic storm is still expected.
This is reported by the British Geological Survey.
According to scientists, the solar wind speed is currently elevated due to the influence of a high-speed stream from a coronal hole. The wind speed is expected to decrease over the next few days.
Overall, according to space weather forecasters, geomagnetic activity should be quiet over the next few days, but with the possibility of occasional active periods due to residual effects from the coronal hole.
Additionally, a G1-level magnetic storm is expected on February 8 if a glancing coronal mass ejection occurs.
