Named the No. 1 Tea for Stomach Health
Do you suffer from gas, bloating, or other stomach problems? Digestive teas can help, reports UNIAN.
In particular, nutritionists recommend peppermint tea, which is especially beneficial for digestion, writes Prevention. It is noted that while consuming enough fiber and fluids is necessary for good digestion, sometimes the body may need something extra, and this is where peppermint tea comes to the rescue.
As dietitian Lauren Manaker explained, mint tea is particularly effective for relieving symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome, such as gas, bloating, and abdominal pain, thanks to the peppermint oil it contains.
"The powerful ingredient in this tea is menthol, a natural compound that has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract," Manaker explained.
Menthol helps relax the muscles of the stomach and intestines, which can relieve spasms that cause pain. This mechanism also facilitates easier gas passage, reducing bloating. A cup of mint tea after a heavy meal can refresh the intestines.
The dietitian advised drinking mint tea after meals or before bedtime to soothe the body. She noted that you can safely drink from one to three cups a day for a noticeable effect.
