It has become known why hands go numb at night

Numbness in one or both hands after sleep, prolonged sitting, or physical exertion is a common phenomenon. Neurologist Artem Baryshev told "Gazeta.Ru" about the possible causes of this symptom.
According to him, the cervical-thoracic spine experiences particular stress when the body adapts to different conditions. It often becomes the source of problems.
"If only one hand is numb and painful, it's possible that the shoulder and shoulder blade are overloaded or a nerve root in the neck area is pinched. Numbness in both hands may indicate improper functioning of the lumbar region - the body 'pulls' the top down to compensate for the load. If discomfort occurs after working at a computer, vision may have deteriorated, and the neck is trying to stabilize the position of the eye muscles," the specialist explained.
Baryshev emphasized that each case requires an individual approach and diagnosis. If symptoms appear suddenly and do not go away after taking anti-inflammatory drugs, this may indicate more serious disorders.
"The progression of symptoms determines the need for additional examinations, including MRI or even gastroscopy. Therefore, it is important to tell your doctor about all the nuances in detail and not to self-medicate," he concluded.
