Doctors sound the alarm: shower loofahs can pose a serious threat to skin health, becoming real "breeding grounds" for fungi and bacteria that are transferred to the body during washing. Dr. Jorge Angel warned about this in an interview with Vanitatis. According to him, soaping the body with hands is much safer from a hygiene perspective.

"The loofah accumulates moisture and becomes an ideal environment for microorganisms to multiply," explains Angel. "Their contact with the skin can lead to irritation, unpleasant odor, and even infections."

For those who are not ready to completely abandon the familiar shower accessory, the specialist offers a compromise solution: regularly change the loofah, as well as thoroughly squeeze and dry it in a well-ventilated area after each use.

The expert also paid special attention to the duration of bathing procedures. According to his recommendations, a shower that is too short does not cope with the task of fully cleansing the skin from dirt, while an excessively long one damages the natural protective barrier.

"If you stand under the stream of water for a long time, the skin loses moisture, becomes dry and vulnerable," explained Angel. "This increases the risk of inflammation and other skin problems."

According to the specialist, the optimal shower duration should not exceed five minutes - this time is sufficient for hygiene procedures without harming the skin.
