Apple is developing its own neural interface that will allow controlling iPhone and iPad using brain signals. The company is working on the project in partnership with American biotechnology startup Synchron.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the technology is based on the Stentrode microimplant - a device that is inserted into a blood vessel near the motor cortex of the brain. It is equipped with electrodes that read neural signals and transmit them digitally.

Apple is creating software that will interpret these signals for interaction with device interfaces: from selecting icons to controlling screen functions.

Special attention is being paid to people with limited mobility - primarily patients with spinal cord injuries and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Since 2019, the Stentrode implant has been installed in 10 patients, and one of them is already testing the ability to control Apple devices using only brain impulses.

The goal of the project is to create a complete ecosystem in which Apple devices will be accessible to users with special needs without additional equipment. In the future, the technology is planned to be adapted for a wider audience as well.
