Asteroid the size of a high-rise building missed Earth

Potentially dangerous asteroid 2025 PM passed by Earth at noon on August 17 at a distance of about one million kilometers. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS.

- Over the past two days, its size has been clarified and slightly increased - up to 53 meters. The orbital parameters remained unchanged, - the scientists' message states. - The largest approach of the year (or one of the largest) will occur in the second half of September: asteroid 2025 FA22, about 200 meters in size, should pass at approximately the same distance from the planet.

As previously reported, the potentially dangerous asteroid was only discovered in early August. It belongs to the Apollo group, that is, near-Earth asteroids whose orbits cross our planet's orbit from the outside. The object's orbital period around the Sun is just over two years.
