Will Baku become a city for eco-transport?

Electric scooters and bicycles are gradually becoming part of the urban environment in many countries, and this trend has not bypassed Baku. The city, where automobile transport has dominated for decades, is now beginning to think about creating a more environmentally friendly and convenient transportation system. The question is whether the capital of Azerbaijan can transform into a real center for eco-transport.
Every year the number of cars on the streets of Baku increases, leading to traffic jams, air pollution, and noise. That is why city residents are increasingly paying attention to alternative modes of transportation. Bicycles and electric scooters are becoming not only a means of entertainment but also a real opportunity to move around the city quickly and conveniently. This is especially relevant in heavy traffic conditions, when even a short car trip can take much more time than on two-wheeled transport.
In recent years, the first initiatives related to the development of bicycle infrastructure have begun to appear in Baku. Bike lanes are gradually being built, and in the city center, you can meet more and more people who prefer bicycles or scooters. However, the main problem is that the infrastructure is not yet fully developed. Road conditions and safety remain the main obstacles to the mass use of eco-transport.
Nevertheless, experts note that Baku has every chance to focus on environmentally friendly modes of transportation. This will help not only reduce the load on roads but also improve air quality and increase the tourist attractiveness of the city. European experience shows that the popularization of bicycle and scooter transport is possible with proper planning and creating comfortable conditions for residents.
For this, it is important to continue developing the network of bicycle lanes, implement rental systems, and improve the culture of road traffic. Equally significant will be support from the state and municipality, as it depends on them how quickly and efficiently the city can transition to new transportation standards.
If this process continues, in the coming years Baku could transform into a city where bicycles and electric scooters will harmoniously coexist alongside cars. This means the capital will be able to take a step toward a modern and environmentally sustainable future.
