A link found between tooth decay and blood sugar## Contribution
A study conducted on 65 patients at the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London showed that dental problems can increase blood sugar levels. Infection from inflamed pulp enters the blood vessels, increasing inflammation and thereby negatively affecting blood indicators.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to The Guardian, scientists emphasize that only timely dental treatment, which prevents bacteria from entering the bloodstream, helps maintain normal sugar levels and reduce them. Taking care of oral health reduces the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
"This is not just about fixing a problem with one tooth. Such procedures have a long-term impact on the patient's overall condition, especially in terms of reducing the risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease and diabetes," said Dr. Sadia Niazi from King's College London.
