FIFA made a statement regarding Iran's national team participation in the 2026 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented on the possible participation of the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to El Financiero, the head of the organization noted that Iran is facing a difficult situation, however FIFA is realistically assessing the circumstances and continues to work to ensure the team has the most comfortable conditions possible for participating in the tournament. According to him, no alternative scenarios are being considered - there is only the main plan for holding the matches.

Infantino emphasized that the current geopolitical situation remains tense and is beyond the influence of football governing bodies. At the same time, he stated that football is capable of uniting people, creating an atmosphere of unity, peace, and celebration.

The FIFA president separately noted that the Iranian national team qualified for the World Cup solely on sporting merit and secured its participation in the tournament in advance, and therefore the organization intends to respect this result.
