The Caspian Sea is losing water at an alarming rate

"By 2050, the water level in the Caspian Sea will decrease by 1.5 meters compared to the current level".
This was stated by Professor Amir Aliyev, head of the Caspian Sea department at the Hasan Aliyev Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education, in his comment for BAKU.WS.
He noted that the level of the Caspian Sea has been in a state of constant decline from 1996 to the present day. The level drops by approximately 20-25 centimeters annually, however, data from the last two years show that the rate of decline has somewhat decreased.
"If previously the level was decreasing by 20-25 centimeters per year, now this indicator is in the range of 10-15 centimeters. This means that the process of the Caspian Sea level decline is cyclical in nature. The decline process will likely continue until the 2050s. By that time, the level may drop by approximately 1-1.5 meters below the current level. Starting from the middle of the century, a rise in the level is expected. The slowdown in the rate of decline observed over the past 2-3 years confirms this once again," the specialist emphasized in his comment.
