Mother of a child suffering from thalassemia: We are forced to travel from Balakan to Baku once every two weeks

9-year-old Aydin has been suffering from beta-thalassemia since he was 6 months old. For treatment, his family is forced to travel from Balaken to Baku every 10-15 days.
"The journey costs more than 200 manats. Sometimes, when we don't have enough money, we stop in Sheki. They also do blood transfusions there, but it's impossible to get tests done, so we have to go to Baku. We travel for 8 hours, arrive at the hospital at 5 am, and the appointments start at 9. While waiting for our turn, the child remains hungry," said the boy's mother.
The Ministry of Health stated that currently district hospitals do not have the capability to perform blood transfusions for thalassemia patients in specialized departments.
"Proposals are being developed to solve this problem. Appropriate measures are expected from the authorities to improve the situation," the ministry noted.
