Innovation with prescriptions in Azerbaijan - a problem for patients?

In 2024, Azerbaijan began implementing an electronic prescription system (reseptim.az) to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility of medical information. Now doctors can prescribe medications and specify instructions for their use not only on paper but also in digital format. To receive medications, citizens only need to present a code at the pharmacy.
While this step towards digitalization is viewed positively, it has also raised some concerns.
"The electronic prescription is inconvenient for me. Yesterday, I had to stand in line for four hours. The doctor is constantly busy with the computer and cannot properly examine the patient," shared one of the interviewed residents with Baku TV.
Pharmacists note that the number of patients using electronic prescriptions is still small.
"We haven't encountered any problems when checking electronic prescriptions. We enter the code into the system, and the prescription opens without errors. It's also clearly visible which doctor issued it," said pharmacist Saida Panakhova.
The Digital Healthcare Center emphasized that all medical institutions under the Ministry of Health were informed about the system implementation in advance. Additionally, fines may be imposed in the future for refusing to issue electronic prescriptions.
