Azerbaijan celebrates Novruz Bayram

Today, one of the most beloved national holidays - Novruz Bayram - is celebrated in our country.

As reported by BAKU.WS, astronomical spring in Azerbaijan this year will begin on March 20 at 13:01:25 Baku time. This date marks the spring equinox. The sun will move along the ecliptic from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere, after which spring will begin in our hemisphere.

The celebration of Novruz marks the meeting of the first day of spring. On September 30, 2009, this holiday was included by UNESCO in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Novruz has ancient roots. Some peoples associated the arrival of spring and the awakening of nature with the beginning of a new year, and public festivities were organized for this occasion.

According to ancient beliefs, the universe consists of four elements - water, fire, earth, and air. That is why the celebration of Novruz is preceded by four Tuesdays (chershenbe), each of which represents one of these elements.

Novruz Bayram has its own traditions. On this holiday, it is customary to jump over a bonfire, place semeni (sprouted wheat) on the table, decorate a khoncha, paint eggs, play various games, and visit each other's homes.
