Building collapse in Tbilisi: one person dead
In Tbilisi, a five-story residential building collapsed near the railway station on Monday.
As the director of the police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vazha Siradze, told journalists, rescue operations and evacuation of residents are currently underway.
"There may be human casualties. Updated information will be available soon," said Siradze.
Later, the mayor of the Georgian capital, Kakha Kaladze, told journalists that one person died and one was taken to the hospital as a result of the collapse of the five-story residential building in Tbilisi.
"This building was in disrepair, and the city hall repeatedly approached the residents with an offer to provide them with apartments elsewhere. However, some residents refused this offer," said Kaladze.
