UN Secretary-General congratulated President Ilham Aliyev

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres sent a congratulatory letter to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of May 28 - Independence Day.

This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

"Your Excellency,

I congratulate you on Independence Day. National holidays provide another opportunity to reflect on common global challenges.

The international community faces a growing number of trials requiring multilateral solutions – from the climate crisis to conflicts and growing inequality.

This is the spirit of the Pact for the Future. At the heart of this historic document, adopted last year by the United Nations General Assembly, lies the urgent need to strengthen multilateral relations and promote peace, sustainable development, and universal human rights.

On this special day, I am pleased once again to convey my best wishes to the people of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Your Excellency, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration," the letter states.
