"Trump's Route": Have Moscow and Washington reached certain agreements?

It is quite likely that the "Trump Route," which is supposed to pass through the Zangezur Corridor, was agreed upon between Washington and Moscow.
Armenian political scientist Suren Surenyants made this statement while commenting on the position of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk regarding the implementation of the transport corridor called the "Trump Route."
"Overchuk's statement came as a surprise to many. A harsh refusal was expected, but instead we heard: if it benefits Armenia, we will support the project," noted Surenyants.
According to the political scientist, this position can be explained by several reasons:
1. Given the war in Ukraine, Russia is avoiding opening a new front against the US;
2. The Kremlin does not believe in the real prospect of implementing the "Trump Route" and does not consider a harsh reaction appropriate;
3. The existence of certain agreements with Washington on this issue cannot be ruled out.
At the same time, Surenyants pointed out several risks:
- Strengthening Western influence in the South Caucasus;
- Armenia's gradual exit from the Russian orbit;
- Strengthening the positions of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The Armenian political scientist also believes that Moscow could benefit from the project's implementation. "Russia could be involved in the economic components of the project, maintain leverage for negotiations, and present itself as a peacemaker," he emphasized.
According to Surenyants, Moscow loses nothing with this tactic at the current stage. "If the project fails, there will be no losses; if it is implemented, there will be a chance to be involved or at least use it in Russia's interests," he added.
