Citizens of Azerbaijan were aboard the ferry that sank off the coast of the TRNC – both rescued

The crew of the FİLOJET ferry that was wrecked off the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) included Azerbaijani citizens Valeh Gummatov and Rashad Ibragimov. Both have been rescued.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was communicated to AZERTAJ by the head of the Azerbaijan–Cyprus Friendship Society, Orkhan Hasanoglu.

The head of the society noted that he personally called the hospital where the Azerbaijani citizens had been taken. "Our compatriots have already been discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid. Their health is not at risk," said O. Hasanoglu, expressing condolences to the families of those who died and those affected from the ferry that was operating on the Kyrenia–Taşucu route.

A ferry carrying 267 people on board sank off the coast of the TRNC on Sunday, August 30. The tragedy occurred approximately 4 miles off the coast of the city of Kyrenia.

237 people were rescued, seven died, and the search for the remaining 23 continues with the use of boats and drones.
