Pope Francis welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the text of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

As Report informs, the pontiff's statement was distributed by the Holy See's press service.

He expressed his appreciation for the steps taken toward peace in the South Caucasus amid efforts to achieve a final peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan.

"May this be a sign of hope that other conflicts can also find a path to resolution through dialogue and goodwill," Vatican News quotes the Pope as saying.

The head of the Catholic Church, who was hospitalized on February 14, appeared before the faithful today for the first time in five weeks.

The pontiff appeared on the balcony of one of the windows of Rome's Agostino Gemelli Hospital for the traditional Sunday blessing, after which he was discharged from the medical facility.

Recall that on March 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement on the completion of negotiations on the text of the draft Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Baku and Yerevan.
