The First Vice-President of Azerbaijan familiarized herself with the progress of restoration in St. Paul's Basilica in the Vatican

On October 16, the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, accompanied by the Archpriest of St. Paul's Basilica Cardinal James Harvey, familiarized herself with the progress of restoration and construction works being carried out in the basilica with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
As reported by BAKU.WS, priest Don Lodovico Turrisi and architect Marco Ciriachi informed First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva about the cathedral and the work being done there.
It was noted that St. Paul's Basilica is the second largest cathedral in the Vatican after St. Peter's Cathedral and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. This cathedral, built on the burial site of the holy Apostle Paul, is one of the four main papal basilicas in Rome and is considered one of the most sacred and historical places of the Roman Catholic Church. Mosaic portraits of all pontiffs are placed in the interior of the basilica. Located far from the noisy Vatican, the basilica is characterized by a quiet and spiritual atmosphere.
Recall that on September 11, 2024, as part of the "Jubilee Year" organized every 25 years and celebrated by the Holy See, a document was signed between the Governorate of the Vatican City State and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, providing for the security and repair of marble coverings and decorative elements of St. Paul's Basilica. The document was signed by the former president of the Governorate Cardinal Fernando Verges Alzaga and the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov.
