At what age can one start drinking coffee?

According to modern international medical recommendations, children should not consume coffee until they reach the age of 14. Before this age, the total daily dose of caffeine should not exceed 50 mg, Vasily Plotnikov, a neurologist and epileptologist at Lahta Clinic, told "Gazeta.Ru".
"From the age of 14, up to 100 mg per day is usually allowed, which means you can have one cup of ground coffee per day or two cups of coffee. Large doses of caffeine can lead to anxiety and aggression in adolescents, and can also contribute to excessive excitability and bad behavior, headaches," the doctor explained.
The specialist also draws attention to the fact that caffeine is contained not only in coffee but also in other beverages. For example, children under 14 are not recommended to consume more than one small can of cola (0.33 ml).
"Some children also like sweet teas - don't forget about the caffeine content in them, including green tea. And, of course, energy drinks, according to current recommendations, are completely unacceptable until the age of 18, as they often contain at least 150 mg of caffeine per can," the doctor concluded.
