Riyadh Criticized Iran's Strikes on Nakhchivan: There Is No Justification for Tehran's Hostile Course
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia condemned today's Iranian drone strikes on Azerbaijan, as well as yesterday's incident involving an Iranian UAV shot down in Turkish airspace.
This was reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"These cowardly actions against two countries, as well as Iran's repeated brazen behavior toward the states of the region, demonstrate Tehran's hostile course, which cannot be justified under any circumstances. This also clearly contradicts international law, norms and principles of good neighborliness, and leads to further escalation," the statement said.
Riyadh emphasized that it fully stands in solidarity with Azerbaijan and Turkey, their governments and peoples. The Saudi side also affirmed the right of both countries to defend their security, airspace, territorial integrity and citizens, and highly praised the efforts undertaken by them to prevent escalation and maintain stability in the region.
As a reminder, on March 5, unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of Iran attacked targets in the territory of Nakhchivan. One of the drones hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, and the second one landed near a school building in the village of Shekerabab. As a result of the airport attack, two civilians were injured. The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Damirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
