After Nikol Pashinyan came to power in Armenia in 2018, fundamentally new approaches were put forward in the process of settling the Karabakh conflict.

As reported by BAKU.WS, political analyst Aziz Alibeyli commented on the events that took place in the negotiation process after Pashinyan came to power.

According to the political analyst, when Pashinyan came to power in 2018, he outlined certain approaches to the issue of the country's territorial integrity. However, at subsequent stages, no progress was achieved in resolving the Karabakh problem.

"At the same time, there were certain opportunities and principles formed during the previous period. Based on these principles, it was possible to hold meetings between the parties and achieve concrete results. However, this was not allowed to materialize.

At the same time, we were told that a third party should also participate in the process. By this third party, the Karabakh Armenians were implied. Then, at the next stage, the question arose of the Karabakh Armenians supporting Yerevan's position.

At the fourth stage, the approach voiced by the Armenian side, including by David Tonoyan, of 'new territories' - that is, putting forward claims to other territories of Azerbaijan - ultimately drove the process into a deadlock, and the negotiations were halted," Aziz Alibeyli stated.
