Vugar Bayramov: Yerevan talks about peace but acts differently

"Armenia's reaction to the visit of diplomatic corps representatives accredited in Azerbaijan to Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur raises doubts about the sincerity of official Yerevan regarding the peace agenda."

This was stated by Milli Majlis deputy Vugar Bayramov in a comment to BAKU.WS.

According to him, the visit of diplomatic corps representatives to the region is of great importance in terms of conveying Azerbaijani realities to the international community. However, the statements made in Armenia, including in circles close to the government, regarding this visit indicate that approaches far from reality still persist.

"The statements made in Armenia in connection with this visit, both from revanchist forces and from pro-government circles, do not reflect reality at all. Unfortunately, such an approach raises questions about how interested the Armenian government is in achieving sustainable peace in the region. Armenia, having suffered defeat in the war, was forced to enter into negotiations with Azerbaijan. However, unfortunately, during these negotiations, along with approaches that genuinely contribute to peace, contradictory positions are also being demonstrated," V. Bayramov emphasized.

The deputy noted that Pashinyan's presentation of letters from the self-proclaimed entity to Charles Michel after the Prague Agreement of 2022 created a contradictory impression of Armenia's approach to the peace process.

"On the one hand, the Armenian government demonstrates commitment to the peace agenda, and on the other hand, completely different positions are put forward. Especially during the period of formation of new realities in the region, such approaches are undesirable from the standpoint of advancing the peace process," the deputy stated.

V. Bayramov added that despite all this, Azerbaijan is taking steps that contribute to the expansion of peace and cooperation in the region.

"Azerbaijan exported fuel to Armenia. At the same time, restrictions on the transit of goods through its territory toward Armenia were lifted. All of this demonstrates that Azerbaijan is making a real contribution to the peace agenda and is interested in expanding sustainable peace, cooperation, and economic ties in the region," the parliamentarian stated.

According to the deputy, it is regrettable that an adequate response to these steps by Azerbaijan is not being demonstrated in Armenia — neither at the opposition level nor at the government level.

"Azerbaijan's approach is backed by practical steps. It is important that the Armenian side also takes concrete actions that serve the cause of peace and cooperation," Vugar Bayramov concluded.
