Farid Shafiyev: Armenians seek to appropriate the history of Caucasian Albania

Armenians are seeking to Armenize the history of Caucasian Albania.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this was stated by the Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism (CAIR) Farid Shafiyev at an event dedicated to the heritage of Caucasian Albania in the history of Azerbaijan's statehood.

He noted that every state that emerged on the territory of Azerbaijan left its mark on national identity.

"A whole number of states existed on the territory of Azerbaijan, and each of them left a certain mark on our statehood, on our national identity. These issues should be comprehensively researched, work is being carried out in this direction, books are being translated, etc. However, experience shows that any gaps in this area can be exploited," Shafiyev said.

He commented on recent statements by Armenian radicals about the alleged "Albanization" of churches in Karabakh.

"This does not correspond to reality. On the territory of Azerbaijan, there are historical religious structures belonging to various peoples and religious communities, and our country pays attention to the protection of these monuments. Armenians are trying to deny the history of Caucasian Albania. That is, they are seeking to fully Armenize it. Their goal is to claim that a so-called 'Greater Armenia' allegedly existed here. The history of Caucasian Albania to a certain extent destroys this idea of 'Greater Armenia.' They see this and do not wish to accept it," Shafiyev emphasized.
