Member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) have agreed on the development of a common map and a unified catalog of geographical names.

As Report informs, the corresponding agreements were reached in Astana following the 3rd meeting of heads of cartographic institutions of OTS member states.

According to information from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the event was attended by representatives of relevant agencies of Turkic states, as well as OTS Deputy Secretary General Nuru Guliyev.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the creation of a basic common Turkic map, which will unite cartographic data of the organization's member states in a single information space. The working group was tasked with finalizing the project and presenting it at the next meeting.

The participants also agreed to continue work on a unified catalog of geographical names, expand the exchange of technologies and expertise in the fields of geodesy, cartography, and digital spatial data.

In addition, it was proposed to consider the possibility of establishing a special unit under the OTS Secretariat to coordinate joint cartographic projects.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a declaration consolidating the agreements on further cooperation and implementation of joint initiatives.

The next meeting of heads of OTS cartographic institutions will take place in 2027 in Kyrgyzstan.
