India blocks Azerbaijan's membership in the SCO

India again opposed granting Azerbaijan full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Meanwhile, Beijing at the SCO summit taking place in China confirmed its support for Azerbaijan's application, noting its compliance with the principles of the "Shanghai spirit".

"In turn, officials familiar with the situation told AnewZ that New Delhi's decision contradicts the principles of multilateral diplomacy and the 'Shanghai spirit,' which stipulate the inadmissibility of transferring bilateral disputes to multilateral platforms. According to these reports, India's position is closely linked to Azerbaijan's brotherly relations with Pakistan," the TV channel notes.

One of the sources told the publication that such steps "do not change Azerbaijan's strategic course, but only demonstrate the limitations and short-sightedness of India's policy."
