Imamoglu's sponsor plan regarding Isa Gambar: exposure of agents

The investigation conducted against former Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on espionage charges has revealed the regional scale of the struggle for ideological sovereignty. Hüseyin Gün, whose name appears in the investigation materials, admitted that he participated in the creation of the Freedom LLC organization in the USA in 2005.

According to him, financial support was provided through this organization under the pretext of "democratization of Azerbaijan" to some politicians, including Isa Gambar, the former chairman of the Musavat party.

This statement once again raised the question of the Azerbaijani opposition's connections with foreign funding. Analysts note that after 2013, when the influx of foreign grants was officially restricted, funding was carried out through unofficial channels, mainly through Georgia. The Freedom LLC channel is viewed as new evidence that specifies the legal foundations of this system.

Allegations about connections between part of the Azerbaijani opposition and security structures of the Soviet period have been discussed for years. A number of former members of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan, including Khalig Bahadir and other politicians, claimed that some leaders "acted under the control of the KGB." When these allegations are combined with new facts that emerged in the İmamoğlu investigation, there is a need to view the issue through the lens of national security.

Conclusion: sovereignty is protected not only by borders and the army but also by ideology. In the modern world, state independence is not limited to territory and economic resources. The main struggle takes place at the level of ideas, information, and ideology.

The main task for Azerbaijan is to neutralize foreign centers that seek to influence national identity, state policy, and public opinion in the legal, financial, and media spheres.
