Farhad Mammadov: All prerequisites for strengthening integration exist in the South Caucasus
Today, there are objective prerequisites for strengthening regional integration in the South Caucasus.
This was stated by the coordinator of the "Peace Bridge" initiative, Director of the South Caucasus Research Center Farhad Mammadov, in response to a question from Report, at today's press conference in Gabala following a meeting of representatives of the civil societies of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"The current geopolitical landscape creates an additional impetus for regional integration in the South Caucasus to take place. The situation in the bilateral format is developing quite well. Previously, there was no Azerbaijan-Armenia format, but today it has emerged," the expert said.
According to him, the geopolitical situation has developed in such a way that the South Caucasus is becoming attractive from a transport and logistics perspective.
"Of course, there is the factor of infrastructure readiness. In this regard, the countries of the region have different positions. Therefore, all of this requires additional coordination. In reality, there are interests of states and functions that they must fulfill in the integration process. I think that the process of coordinating these functions requires some time. But the objective conditions for the regional integration process to take place still exist," Farhad Mammadov added.
