Armenia is preparing for a new war with Azerbaijan: analysis of military purchases

As Caliber.Az previously reported, Armenia is intensively preparing for a new war with Azerbaijan, which could well break out in just a few weeks, after reservist mobilization begins in the neighboring country in April. The systematic rearming of the Armenian army also indicates Armenia's active preparation for a large-scale conflict, which is what we will discuss today.
As BAKU.WS reports, this is discussed in the latest issue of Caliber's analytical YouTube project.
"Arms purchases and army modernization directly reflect the military strategy of a state. If a country is actively increasing its arsenal, emphasizing offensive systems, this indicates not only strengthening defense capabilities but also preparation for future combat operations.
Recent data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) show that Armenia has significantly increased the pace of weapons procurement in recent years, especially after the defeat in the 44-day war, shifting focus from its traditional military-technical partner - Russia - toward new suppliers such as France and India.
According to SIPRI data, Armenia began purchasing new weapons back in 2020, concluding a contract with India for the supply of four Swathi artillery reconnaissance radar stations. These systems are designed to detect enemy artillery positions and adjust return fire, allowing for effective destruction of firing points. The first deliveries under this contract were completed in 2021.
In the same year of 2020, Armenia concluded a contract with Russia for the purchase of Mi-17 multipurpose transport helicopters, although the exact number of rotorcraft remains in question. According to SIPRI information, it was about four units. The contract was fulfilled in 2022. This type of helicopter is actively used for troop transportation, medical evacuation, and landing operations," the material states.
