Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan: From Fraternal Bonds to a New Generation Strategic Alliance

Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan today are developing as a model of alliance based on shared political will, mutual trust, and long-term strategic interests.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this opinion was expressed in a comment for Oxu.Az by Member of the Milli Majlis Tural Ganjaliyev, analyzing the results of President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Uzbekistan.

The parliamentarian emphasized that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are united by a common history, language, culture, and spiritual values, which form a solid foundation for interstate relations.

"However, in recent years, this natural closeness has acquired new political substance thanks to consistent political dialogue, high-level visits, and the signing of crucial documents. Relations that have evolved from strategic partnership to the stage of alliance are already being strengthened by specific institutional mechanisms and a broad cooperation agenda.

Economic ties are developing as a logical extension of political relations. The growth of trade turnover, expansion of mutual investments, creation of joint industrial enterprises, and cooperation in the fields of energy and transport logistics demonstrate the intention of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to form a common economic space and new regional opportunities.

At the same time, the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States holds special political significance. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan take a unified position on issues of deepening integration of the Turkic world, expanding political and economic ties, and increasing transport and communication capabilities. This approach serves to transform the Turkic world into a more influential political and economic center in the system of international relations," he said.

According to Tural Ganjaliyev, Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations are no longer simply ties between two brotherly countries.

"These relations represent a model of strategic partnership that holds significance for a broader geopolitical and geoeconomic space. The cooperation linking the South Caucasus with Central Asia plays a key role in ensuring regional stability, mutual development, and the formation of new transport and logistics opportunities.

The political solidarity and allied relations existing today between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan demonstrate that shared history and brotherhood are not merely spiritual concepts, but a powerful model of cooperation grounded in specific political and strategic goals oriented toward the future. Azerbaijan and Central Asia are being shaped as a unified geopolitical and geoeconomic space. The expansion of Azerbaijan's cooperation with Central Asian countries opens new opportunities for the development of transport and communication links, energy and investment projects, and the strengthening of mutual integration between the regions.

One of the important dimensions of Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations is Uzbekistan's active participation in the reconstruction process of Karabakh. The construction of the Mirza Ulugbek school in Fuzuli, investments in a garment factory in Khankendi, and other projects demonstrate Uzbekistan's political and practical support for Azerbaijan's constructive policy in the post-conflict period.

The holding of the 3rd session of the Supreme Interstate Council during the visit, the signing of new documents, and the mutual awarding of the heads of state with the highest state decorations attest to the high political level of bilateral relations. At the same time, new investment projects and approved concrete action plans indicate long-term prospects for cooperation. Overall, the ideas voiced by President Ilham Aliyev during the visit show that Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations are built on firm political will, mutual trust, and historical-spiritual closeness. The existing model of cooperation not only serves the interests of both countries but also makes an important contribution to the development of new regional ties being formed between the South Caucasus and Central Asia," he noted.
