Anar Guliyev: Baku will transition to a polycentric city model by 2040

The capital of Azerbaijan is preparing for a large-scale urban planning transformation.

As Report conveys, this was stated by the Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev at the II Azerbaijan International Investment Forum held in Baku.

According to him, the transition to a polycentric (multi-center) development model is becoming a key element in creating competitive and future-oriented cities.

"This approach is particularly evident in the example of Baku. The General Plan of the city of Baku until 2040 defines a polycentric, interconnected, and balanced vision of the city, consisting of a main center, regional and local auxiliary centers, supported by modernized transport infrastructure and green networks," the committee chairman added.

Anar Guliyev emphasized that the new General Plan covers the entire administrative territory of the capital with an area of 212,300 hectares and forms a long-term foundation for the development of new urban areas, the restoration of existing zones, and the creation of new investment opportunities.

"The goal is not merely to ensure growth, but also to shape the quality and structure of that growth. One of the most important directions of this transformation is the restoration of former industrial zones," Guliyev emphasized.
