Today marks the day of liberation of Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik invaders.

As BAKU.WS reminds, exactly 107 years ago, on September 15, 1918, Baku was liberated by Azerbaijani and Turkish soldiers. As a result, Azerbaijan gained independence, and the dominance of Armenians and Bolsheviks in Baku and surrounding areas was ended.

The liberation of Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik invaders is one of the glorious pages in the history of Azerbaijan in the 20th century. Despite Azerbaijan's declaration of independence in May 1918, part of the country's territory, Baku and surrounding areas remained under Armenian-Bolshevik occupation. Azerbaijan, having recently gained independence, did not yet have enough strength and capabilities to ensure its territorial integrity.

Despite the difficult situation, the Ottoman Empire sent an army to Azerbaijan under the command of Nuru Pasha to ensure the territorial integrity of our country. Although European states opposed the arrival of Turkish troops in Azerbaijan, in August-September 1918, the Ottoman Empire worthily fulfilled its historical mission.

On September 15, the Caucasian Islamic Army liberated Baku from occupation. After this historic date, the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was moved from Ganja to Baku. The Ottoman troops lost 1,130 people in these battles.

This glorious and historic day will forever remain in the memory of Azerbaijanis. On September 15, 2018, a parade dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the city's liberation was held in Baku's Azadlyg Square. It was attended by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The logical continuation of the heroic epic was the Patriotic War, which began on September 27 and ended on November 10, 2020. Azerbaijan liberated its territories from Armenian occupation. Turkey once again provided our country with political and moral support. Today, we can say with confidence that the blood of the martyrs of 1918, the first Karabakh war, and those who died after it has not remained unavenged.
