Alarming Forecast of Geomagnetic Storms - What Do You Need to Know?
World 7

Geomagnetic disturbances caused by a new coronal hole on the Sun may continue for up to six days - from Saturday, September 13, to Tuesday, September 16. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Earth will enter the region of disturbed magnetic field on the night of September 13-14. After this, "the solar wind speed will begin to rapidly increase from the current 400 km/s to approximately 500-600 km/s on September 14-15." The peak of disturbances is expected on Tuesday, September 16.

Scientists note that medium-sized coronal holes are not capable of "breaking through" Earth's magnetic field above the level of G2-G3 storms.

The report also indicates that September has been rich in magnetic storms. During the first ten days of the month, three storms occurred, which is approximately one every three days. According to scientists, this is ten times more frequent than in August, when only one storm was recorded for the entire month.

The last such storm was recorded on the night of September 10. It turned out to be "completely incomprehensible and difficult to explain," as it was not predicted by forecasts.
