Scientists clarified that the phenomenon was caused by an increase in the speed of the solar wind. This happened because the Earth was in the impact zone of a large coronal hole, the boundary of which it crossed on the night of September 14.

It is noted that such an event was predicted in advance, but the actual strength of the storm exceeded the expectations of specialists.

"All forecasts were limited to a maximum of about G1. According to world catalogs, the last time a storm of comparable or greater power was observed on June 1-2 this year," the experts added.

According to the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stabilization of the geocosmic situation is not expected until Thursday or Friday of the current week.
