Promised a job in Germany, but disappeared: an Azerbaijani man has been unable to get his money back for 7 months
An Azerbaijani man has been unable to get back the 1,000 manats he paid to a company for promised employment in Germany for seven months now. The man fell victim to a scheme related to "work abroad," actively promoted through social media.
Advertisements for jobs abroad with attractive conditions are increasingly appearing online: "pay of 10-11 dollars per hour," as well as supposedly provided housing and meals. Such offers attract many citizens who turn to intermediaries. Companies charge money for "employment processing," but then either disappear or fail to fulfill their obligations.
One of the victims was Temkin Mammadov. According to him, in August of last year he contacted a company offering work abroad and paid 1,000 manats for employment in Germany. According to the agreement, the job was supposed to be provided within three months, but seven months have already passed with no result.
"They gave me another contract stating that the money should be returned within 10 days. But they are not fulfilling their obligations," he noted.
A Baku TV film crew visited the company Davidov Global, which is associated with this case. A company representative, who did not wish to give his name, stated that a lawyer should be contacted regarding this matter.
The company's lawyer, in turn, stated that due to the current international situation, the destination country had allegedly refused to accept labor migrants. According to him, some clients have already received refunds, and the rest will also receive compensation.
However, human rights advocate Mirjavid Miriyev recommends that victims contact law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that in accordance with the law, if the amount of damage exceeds 500 manats, and depending on the circumstances of the case, the method of committing the crime, and the number of victims, the perpetrators can be held criminally liable.
According to him, the punishment can range from a fine of 1,000 - 2,000 manats to imprisonment for up to 14 years in the presence of aggravating circumstances.
