Novruz Bayrami is celebrated in Azerbaijan

Today, one of the most beloved folk holidays is celebrated in our country - Novruz Bayrami.

Astronomical spring in Azerbaijan this year will begin on March 20 at 18:45:53 Baku time. The spring equinox falls on this date. The Sun will move along the ecliptic from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere, after which spring will begin in our hemisphere.

The duration of the spring season will be 92 days 17 hours 38 minutes 28 seconds.

The celebration of Novruz marks the welcoming of the first day of spring. On September 30, 2009, this holiday was inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Novruz has ancient roots. Some peoples associated the arrival of spring and the awakening of nature with the beginning of the new year, and folk festivities were organized on this occasion.

According to ancient beliefs, the universe consists of four elements - water, fire, earth, and air. That is why the celebration of Novruz is preceded by four Tuesdays (chershenbeh), each of which represents one of these elements.

Novruz Bayrami has its own traditions. During this holiday, it is customary to jump over bonfires, place semeni (sprouted wheat) on the table, decorate the khoncha, dye eggs, play various games, and visit one another.
