Eyewitness of the Khojaly tragedy: My husband was shot dead before my eyes
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Khojaly genocide took place - one of the most terrible and brutal tragedies of the 20th century, placed on par with the events in Khatyn and Hiroshima.
As Baku TV reports, one of the living witnesses of that terrible night is Nigar Jafarova. She remained in the memory of many people thanks to a photograph taken at the moment when she was fleeing to Aghdam to escape the attack.
"The girl in that photograph is my aunt's granddaughter. Her mother was wounded and couldn't walk. Her father was carrying her in his arms, and I took the child. Later I learned that the photo was taken by a Turkish photographer," the woman said.
The eyewitness of the Khojaly tragedy recalls that her husband was killed right before her eyes.
"While crossing the mountain, we came upon an Armenian checkpoint. Women and men were lined up separately. Anyone found with ammunition or weapons was killed on the spot. My husband was shot before our eyes. He was shot in the head with an automatic rifle, then struck with a rifle butt. His skull bone was shattered," she recalls the horror she lived through.
