# Hidden Facts About Khojaly: Data Revealed from Armenian Sources
A new episode of the program "Karabakh Chronicle" on Baku TV is dedicated to the Khojaly genocide.
It is reported that the attack on Khojaly was carried out from four directions, and the operation was commanded by war criminal Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan. According to the plan, the first strikes were to be launched from the directions of Tezebina and Khankendi. Armed formations advancing from Khankendi were to receive fire support from the 366th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the 622nd Chemical Defense Battalion of the Soviet Army.
However, the artillery shot from a 152-millimeter howitzer and the detonation of a railcar loaded with ammonium nitrate, which were intended as the signal to begin the operation, did not take place, as a result of which the attack did not begin as planned. Subsequently, armed units deployed in the direction of Mehdibeyli launched an offensive against the civilian population of Khojaly.
In the second phase, control was established over the airport, the defense of which was led by National Hero of Azerbaijan Alif Hajiyev. In the first hours, serious resistance was put up, but due to the inequality of forces and the lack of external support, the defenders were forced to retreat, blowing up the control tower.
Overall, mass killings were committed across an area of approximately 80 sq. km. Taking into account the zone of the operation, this area reached 245 sq. km. None of the plans to rescue the besieged Khojaly were implemented by the central government.
