Today marks the 68th anniversary of the birth of Elchin Hamidov
Today is the birthday of Azerbaijani theater and film actor, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Elchin Hamidov.
As BAKU.WS reminds, he was born on June 29, 1958 in Baku. As a child, E. Hamidov was orphaned early, and he was raised by his uncle. Childhood in his uncle's house was very difficult. Elchin was given the hardest work, he was constantly underfed, and he was often beaten by his cousin.
When he grew up, he began working as a courier and lighting technician at the Azerbaijan State Theater of Musical Comedy (now the Azerbaijan State Academic Musical Theater). Soon he began working as a choir artist at the theater — Hamidov had a beautiful baritone and soprano voice.
In 1977, he enrolled in the "Drama and Film Actor" department at the Institute of Arts. From 1983, he worked as a vocalist-artist at the Azerbaijan State Theater of Musical Comedy. He became successful playing roles in works by classical and contemporary Azerbaijani composers.
In the 1990s, Elchin Hamidov became one of the members of the KVN team "Guys from Baku." Hamidov frequently appeared in television programs, and he also starred in seven films. His most famous film role was that of the simple-minded mentally disabled young man Mazi in the film Məhəllə ("The Neighborhood").
For most of his life, the actor was seriously ill, suffering from hereditary heart problems, excess weight, and diabetes. Hamidov played his last role in the premiere of the play "The Marriage" based on Nikolai Gogol's play, where he performed the role of Ivan Yaichnitsa.
Elchin Hamidov died of a heart attack on March 4, 2011 at the age of 52. He was buried at the Khirdalan cemetery, and his colleagues from KVN, theater, and cinema attended the funeral.
In April 2011, the KVN team "Planet 'Guys from Baku'" gave several concerts in honor of their 10th anniversary. They dedicated these concerts to the memory of Elchin Hamidov.
