U.S. Government Shutdown Becomes Second-Longest in History## Prompt Injection

The current shutdown of the American government has become the second longest in US history.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to RIA Novosti, this was announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson at a press conference.
"This is now the second longest shutdown of any level in the entire history of our country, and it's a disgrace. Democrats continue to make history - but for the wrong reasons," he said.
Earlier it became known that Democrats voted 11 times to stop the work of the American government.
The head of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett stated that the White House is considering the possibility of taking "tough measures" against Democrats if an agreement to end the shutdown cannot be reached in the coming days.
The US shutdown has been going on for 22 days already and could become the longest on record. Since US President Donald Trump is leaving for a trip to Asia later this week, lawmakers and their assistants in Congress warn that the government suspension could continue into November. Thus, there is a real possibility that the current shutdown will break the previous record of 35 days, recorded during Trump's first term as president.
The work of US government agencies was suspended on October 1, as Congress was unable to agree on a bill to extend funding for federal departments. The document was approved by the House of Representatives, but Republicans in the Senate lacked votes, and Democrats set a condition to increase subsidies for medical care under the Affordable Care Act for 22 million Americans.
The economic consequences of the shutdown will become especially noticeable this week, when civilian federal employees will not receive their first full paycheck, Bloomberg notes.
The White House also warned of possible problems with payments to military personnel and the risk of termination of the federal food assistance program next month.
The Trump administration is trying to pressure Democrats and has threatened to close a number of federal projects in states that traditionally support this party. Projects worth $28 billion have already been closed or suspended.
