Turkey closes all markets due to dangerous infection

Turkish authorities have made an emergency decision to temporarily close all livestock markets in the country due to a sharp increase in cases of foot-and-mouth disease.
According to information provided by the reputable Turkish news agency İhlas Haber Ajansı (İHA), the situation requires immediate action.
The epidemiological situation has deteriorated sharply after the celebration of Qurban Bayram, when there is traditionally an increase in contacts between animals and people. In response to the threat, the General Directorate for Food Control under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkey has sent urgent notifications to all 81 provinces of the country. In regions with the most unfavorable epidemiological situation, a strict quarantine regime has already been introduced.
