The United States expects to establish control over Cuba.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to TASS, this was stated by American leader Donald Trump while speaking with journalists on the South Lawn of the White House before a working trip to the state of Texas.

"The government of Cuba is talking to us. They have big problems, they have no money, they have nothing right now. But they are talking to us, and perhaps we will take control of Cuba in a friendly manner," the head of the American administration stated.

On January 29, an executive order was signed in the United States, according to which Washington may impose tariffs on goods from countries that supply oil to Cuba. In accordance with this document, a state of emergency was formally declared in the United States due to an alleged threat from Cuba. The republic's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla declared a resolute condemnation of these measures, which threaten the island nation with a "total blockade of fuel supplies," "violate all principles of international trade," and create "extreme conditions" for the life of the Cuban people.

Washington stated that it is engaging with the leadership in Havana on the situation surrounding Cuba in light of the energy blockade by the United States, and expressed the opinion that the sides are close to reaching an agreement.
