Trump: The US and Iran could jointly charge fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has suggested the creation of a US-Iranian joint venture to charge fees for all vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
As reported by TASS, this was announced by ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl.
"We're thinking about doing it as a joint venture. It's a way to provide security and also to protect it from a lot of other people. It's a beautiful thing," Trump said in response to a journalist's question about whether he agreed with the Iranians charging fees for passage through the strait.
Earlier, Hamid Hosseini, a representative of Iran's Union of Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Products Exporters, told the Financial Times (FT) that Iranian authorities intend to charge $1 per barrel for oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as to have the ability to inspect any vessel. He specified that the fee would be collected in bitcoins.
